Stay to play
The IDT is a “Stay to Play” tournament. Each team is required to book a minimum of eight rooms per night. Organizations with more than one team participating will be expected to book a minimum of eight rooms per night per team. Teams may secure their own accommodations by exercising the “Hotel Buyout” option of $1000 per team. The “Hotel Buyout Document” and payment must be received by May 15, 2023.
THE IDT WILL FOLLOW USA RULES WITH THE FOLLOWING EXCEPTIONS IN POOL PLAY: Free defensive substitution will be allowed. Teams may bat 10 players if they choose to. Teams must turn in a batting order and maintain it during the game. Courtesy runners for the pitcher and catcher are allowed, but must be someone not in the batting order. Pinch runners will be handled as a substitution.
Time Limit. No new inning in any tournament game will begin after one hour, 30 minutes from the completion of the pre-game conference at home plate. Game time will be kept by umpires on the field. A new inning starts with the third out of the previous inning. Run rules will be in effect in all games.
Home Team. A coin flip by umpires during pre-game conference to determine home team. Home team will keep official score and will report score to Field Director at conclusion of game. Team listed first on pool schedule and on top of single elimination bracket will occupy third base dugout, except when playing back-to-back.
Player Roster Rules. A player may only compete for one team during the tournament. This includes both pool and bracket play. No player will be allowed to play for multiple teams within their own organization.
International Tie Breaker. In case of a tie game during the elimination tournament, the international tiebreaker rule will be used. Thus, if a game ends in a tie (after seven innings or completion of a full inning after time expires), in every extra inning, each half inning will begin with a runner on second base. The runner will be the player who is scheduled to bat ninth in that half inning.
Pool Games may end in a tie. If a game is tied after seven innings or the completion of a full inning after time expires, the game will end in a tie. Teams will receive two points for a win, one point for a tie and no points for a loss.
Seeding. Pool play results determine seeding and position in the single elimination bracket. If pool play results in a tie, pool standing will be determined by: a) head‑to‑head results between tied teams. When more than two teams tie, head-to-head will be used only if one team has beaten all other tied teams or one team has lost to all other tied teams; b) fewest runs allowed in all pool games; c) a coin flip. When more than two teams tie, after a team is selected during any step, the tiebreaker reverts back to step a) to select the next team.
Jewelry. Players may wear jewelry, however umpires may ask players to remove jewelry at any time if they have concerns about player safety. An umpires request should be honored immediately without discussion or debate.
Tournament Format. The Director reserves the right to change the tournament format if circumstances require. In case of schedule changes, the official schedule will be on the board posted at Stazio Fields 1-4 in Boulder, at the Garden Acres Complex in Longmont at the Louisville Sports Complex in Louisville and at Community Park Fields in Broomfield.
Line-up Cards. During the pre-game conference at home plate, teams should exchange line-ups and also give a copy to the home plate umpire.
Warm-ups.. Pre game warm-up should be done behind the outfield fences on the field you are scheduled to play on. No warm-ups on the infields inside the base lines. No warm-up hitting into any fence! Do not warm up on fields when field crews are working on the fields..
Poor Sportsmanship. Any coach, player, or fan displaying unsportsmanlike behavior will be subject to suspension from the game and must leave the park before play will be resumed. Any coach who is ejected must sit out the team’s next scheduled game.
